Garbage, Landfill, Hazardous Waste

Garbage Collection

Garbage collection for commercial properties is arranged with private contractors. Private contractors on the Coast include Gibsons Disposal/Recycling, Direct Disposal, Grayco Disposal, and Harbour Disposal.

Except in the District of Sechelt, there is no scheduled pickup for residential recycling, and no pickup for commercial recycling. Recycling depots are operated by GRIPS in Pender Harbour, Salish Soils in Sechelt, and Gibsons Recycling Depot (GRD) in Gibsons. The GRD also accepts household electronics for recycling. As it is a Resource Recovery Centre, the GRD will, for a small fee, accept materials refused by other depots including Styrofoam, books, some hazardous materials, and also acts as a transfer station for residential waste. GRD also accepts (for a fee) compostable organic kitchen waste.

User-pay curbside recycling collection service is offered by: Gibsons Recycling Depot, Second Hans Recycling, Direct Disposal, and Grayco Disposal.

Regional Landfill

Sechelt Landfill is operated by the Sunshine Coast Regional District. It accepts general waste, and some hazardous waste. THE LANDFILL DOES NOT HAVE RECYCLING FACILITIES. See SCRD tipping fee for details on acceptable materials and relevant fees.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Licensed hazardous waste haulers serving the area include City Transfer and Clean Harbours.
