Retail

Taking advantage of growing retail and services spending, a number of national chains have located on the Sunshine Coast, including London Drugs and The Brick (in Gibsons), and Extra Foods and Canadian Tire (in Sechelt).

Lower Gibsons

Lower Gibsons (“The Landing”) supports a charming, trendy business district with chic boutiques, galleries and restaurants that cater to both residents and tourists. At present there is very little untenanted commercial space available. Molly’s Lane Market and the Trading Post house collective warrens of shops and boutiques. The Landing is becoming an arts and cultural hub, with half a dozen art galleries in a three block radius, as well as other shops selling arts and crafts, clothing and jewelry.

In 2013 the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority opened a sea plane float and a drive-on concrete float with a commercial grade ramp at the main wharf. This is the first phase of a planned harbour expansion with additional floats and a breakwater which will create opportunities for additional marine services, tourism and retail enterprises.

Upper Gibsons

“Upper Gibsons”, the commercial centre of the town, features national chain stores at its two malls, as well as other shops, restaurants and services.

The Park Plaza Mall in Gibsons recently completed renovations and further expansion is planned. Two new mixed commercial/residential developments on Gibsons Way – Soames Place and Blue Heron Village – completed construction in 2014/15. Blue Heron is now completely leased, and Soames Place expects to sell or lease its remaining units by fall 2016.

Roberts Creek

Roberts Creek has a small, charming commercial centre with commercial, retail and office space. The Inside Passage School of Fine Cabinetmaking, which attracts students from around the world, is located in Roberts Creek village, as is the landmark Gumboot Cafe. Many other businesses operate from home offices and rural residential properties.
