Sechelt Regional Hospital is centrally located on Highway 101, a 20 minute drive from Gibsons or 30 minutes from Pender Harbour. A new tower opened in 2013, with state-of-the-art medical facilities and larger Emergency, Radiology, Maternity and Acute Care wards. Its adjacent medevac helipad ensures Vancouver’s specialized critical care services is just a 15-minute air shuttle away. Because of the hospital’s proximity, most of the Coast’s family health practitioners, specialists, and dentists have located their offices and clinics in Sechelt. Gibsons and Pender Harbour are also served by centrally-located walk-in medical clinics, with other medical, dental and orthodontic practices and pharmacies centrally located in their communities.
Ancillary or ‘alternative’ health practices are well represented on the Coast. Chiropractic, massage, ayurvedic, osteopathic, homeopathic, acupuncture and other therapies are readily available. When The George Hotel opens its doors in Gibsons (expected date: 2019), its 21,000 square-foot Wellness Centre is expected to become a central hub for health and healing, much like Sparkling Hills Resort’s Wellness Spa near Vernon.
